got some good work done this month! working on the third cut of the film and then maybe a 4th and then back to rework the music for it!
About to watch the first assembly!!! 🙈
Onto 2019! Working on the edit now, trying to get a very rough cut of the film together by Jan 11. I want to get back to writing music again!! Editing feels like such a slog compared to it. I’ve started practicing piano seriously towards the end of the month and have added a blue vertical line to represent that.
Happy new year!! 🎉
Got to hang with my bro this past week! This saucy guy is single ladies! @turgeon.dm
Narrative elements complete! Had an amazing week last week shooting them with a very special cast and crew. Onto the edit, then reimagining the sounds 👻
Inspired tonight by some filmmaker’s advice I heard a long time ago to throw out the first draft and start over for the second- any good ideas you had will come through in the second draft :)
Does anyone know how to get this alert permanently off my phone? I can’t stand it! It keeps coming back after I clear it. I know what do not disturb is I’ve been using it for years THANK YOU SIRI 😡😡😡
today is a very special day! a film i edited called "Esquilas en la Mantaña" is online at long last! directed by my dear friend @sebastianlrfilm this is my favorite film i've edited to date, every time i watch it i'm overcome by a feeling of ease and comfort which for me is so strange and lovely. Esquilas follows a herd of 200 cows leaving the valleys of Ulle, Spain for the greener pastures of the Pyrenees during the dry summer months. It has no interviews, and almost no human voice- just the bells resounding throughout the landscape. please get comfortable, sit back and enjoy this wonderful short doc- link in bio!
The last couple months have been pretty off kilter with vacation, starting a new gig and moving in with @rileshoops . I keep flicking walls for light switches that don’t exist but I’m slowly getting used to this heavenly place :) Before I took this unintentionally long hiatus, I was able to get a rough cut of the music for the project which feels pretty huge— 13 minutes of it! Today I’m finally getting back to the project and am beginning to preproduce the shoot which will be happening IN NOVEMBER! I’m looking forward to that but very anxious about it, feels like so much to do between now and then! Following up my last post, I think I’m going to do a mailing list and a private section of my website to post in progress content if I can figure out how to make that work... more info on that as it progresses!
😍😍 tree is so happy in his new home! 🙂🙃🙂
Killed it this month! Was excited to write today about how I finished the first draft of the music, but as I went back to mix it to start showing people, realized i didn’t like the 4th cue and have since been reworking the whole second half. The mountain analogy feels apt here, about how with creative projects (and really just life generally) you climb and climb towards the top only to realize that what thought was the top was just obscuring the next climb.... Regardless, super proud of the progress I’ve made in this past month, I’ve also started to figure out how to actually play this thing live which is super exciting. I should still be able to finish this rough cut of the music by Aug 15th and maybe the outline too? I’d like to share more of the music /visuals as they progress but IG feels like not really the right place. If anyone’s got any thoughts on that lemme know!
Gotta love a good opportunity
So June totally sucked!! In regards to this at least. May wasn’t much better HOWEVER before I seemingly quit working on this project I did write a minute of music specifically for this that I’m pretty happy with :) I’d been writing a lot of music that was in the world of the project but not specifically for it, so it feels nice to actually have a piece of music that’ll actually be a part of the film/live show. The next step is to build out the next 11 minutes of music, then lock the outline and figure out what I need to shoot! My goal is to finish the rough cut of music and lock the outline by Aug 15, work on preproduction in sept and then shoot in oct!
Looking back on April I’ve done better than I realized! Spent SO MUCH TIME trying to learn to use a 3D modeling program called Blender because there’s a scene in this project where I need to put a baby in a stormy ocean and for many reasons I’m probably not gunna be able to actually shoot that (much as I’d like to) I think I’m at the point now where I’m going to be able to start sharing pieces of the project each month so yay that’s exciting! This month it’s a render of the first ocean scene I tried making- it took me two full days to follow a 1hour 45 min tutorial, this program is SO COMPLICATED. I’ve spent the last week trying to apply the techniques learned from this tutorial to the scene that I want for the film (and struggling to make it look half as good ha)
Got a rough draft of the project done!! Finally figured out the story and how I want all the elements to interact. Now I’m working in Premiere doing a more detailed outline and plugging in the elements I have (music/sound design/home movies) and figuring out the narrative elements and VFX that I need to shoot/create. Also added a couple new features to the calendar, upper right corner triple dots are for practicing singing and lower left lines are for meditating 🙃🙂🙃
So Hawaii continued to make February a wash but once I got back I did great! Last time I posted I wrote “next month I’ll have time to work on it” I meant March, and I’m still on track for that! :) I’ll have a rough cut of the sound and story by then, and then I can start sharing it with people and sculpting it 🤗
